Istanbul

Istanbul is Turkeys most populous city, and its cultural and financial
center. The city covers 25 districts of the Istanbul province. It is
located at 41° N 29° E, on the Bosphorus strait, and encompasses the
natural harbor known as the Golden Horn, in the northwest of the country.
It extends both on the European (Thrace) and on the Asian (Anatolia) side
of the Bosphorus, and is thereby the only metropolis in the world which is
situated on two continents. Istanbul has 31 districts. However, these can
be divided into three main areas: the historic peninsula, the areas north
of the Golden Horn, and the Asian side. The Historic Peninsula of old
İstanbul comprises the districts of Eminönü and Fatih. This area lies on
the southern shores of the Golden Horn which separates the old city center
from the northern and younger parts of the European side. The Historic
Peninsula ends with the Theodosian Land Walls in the west. The peninsula is
surrounded by the Sea of Marmara on the south and the Bosphorus on the
east. North of the Golden Horn are the historical Beyoğlu and Beşiktaş
districts, where the last Sultans palace is located, followed by a chain of
former villages such as Ortaköy and Bebek along the shores of the
Bosphorus. On both the European and Asian sides of the Bosphorus, wealthy
Istanbulites built luxurious chalet mansions, called yalı, which were used
as summer residences. The quarters of Üsküdar (Chrysopolis) and Kadıköy
(Chalcedon) which are located on the Asian

DIE TURKEI TURKEY 2015

With the demise of the Seljuk Sultanate of Rūm (circa 1300), Turkish
Anatolia was divided into a patchwork of independent states, the so-called
Ghazi emirates. By 1300, a weakened Byzantine Empire had seen most of its
Anatolian provinces lost to ten Ghazi principalities. One of the Ghazi
emirates was led by Osman I (from which the name Ottoman is derived), son
of Ertuğrul in the region of Eskişehir in western Anatolia. Osman I
extended the frontiers of Ottoman settlement towards the edge of the
Byzantine Empire. He moved the Ottoman capital to Bursa, and shaped the
early political development of the nation. Given the nickname Kara (which
means black in modern Turkish, but alternatively meant brave or strong in
old Turkish) for his courage,[11] Osman I was admired as a strong and
dynamic ruler long after his death, as evident in the centuries-old Turkish
phrase, may he be as good as Osman. His reputation has also been burnished
by the medieval Turkish story known as Osmans Dream, a foundation myth in
which the young Osman was inspired to conquest by a prescient vision of
empire(according to his dream, the empire is a big tree whose roots spreads
through three continents and its branches are covering the sky). In this
period, a formal Ottoman government was created whose institutions would
change drastically over the life of the empire. The government used the
legal entity known as the millet, under which religious and ethnic
minorities were able to manage

Ormedikilitas Column of Constantine- Istanbul,Turkey

Ormedikilitas Column of Constantine- Istanbul,Turkey Cemberlitas Column
(Constantine Column) The column, known as Cemberlitas (column with rings)
in Turkish, was brought to Constantinople from the Temple of Apollo by
Constantinus I between 325-328 AD. There was a statue of Apollo on top
which was replaced by a cross during Christianity. The column symbolizes
also the end of Pagan tradition on the Byzantine lands. It was erected in
the middle of an oval square known as Forum Constantini, located on the
second hill of the city. The cross was removed after the Conquest of
Constantinople during the Ottoman period. The 35 meter high column was
damaged by big fires and weather conditions during the ages so Sultan
Mustafa II re-enforced the column with iron rings. The marble capital is
from the 12th century and the reinforcing pedestal from the 18th. Today the
Metropolitan Municipality is carrying restoration works of Cemberlitas
column. A Historical Landmark of Turkey- Pictures do say a thousand words.
Enjoy!

IN THE NAME OF ALLAH Some of the Signs of the Hour (Judgment Day) Minor
signs in no order: The taking away of knowledge and the prevalence of
ignorance; the taking away of knowledge will occur with the disappearance
of the scholars, as it says in al-Saheehayn. The spread of zina (adultery,
fornication) The spread of riba (usury, interest) The prevalence of musical
instruments. Widespread drinking of alcohol. Shepherds competing in the
construction of tall buildings. A slave woman giving birth to her mistress,
as is stated in al-Saheehayn. There are several views among the scholars as
to what this means. The view favoured by Ibn Hajar is that there will be
widespread disobedience among children, so that a child will treat his
mother as a master treats his slave woman, with negligence and insults.
Widespread killing. Widespread earthquakes. Appearance of landslides,
transformations and stones from heaven. Appearance of women who are clothed
yet naked. Believers dreams coming true. Widespread giving of false
testimony and concealment of true testimony. Large numbers of women. The
land of the Arabs becoming once again meadows and rivers. The Euphrates
will uncover a mountain of gold. Wild animals and inanimate objects will
speak to people. The Romans will increase in number and fight the Muslims.
The conquest of Constantinople. The major portents of the Hour are those
which were mentioned by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon
him) in the hadeeth of

Roman Empire Republic Conquests [509 BC - 476 AD]

Ancient Rome was a civilization that grew out of a small agricultural
community founded on the Italian Peninsula as early as the 10th century BC.
Located along the Mediterranean Sea, it became one of the largest empires
in the ancient world. In its centuries of existence, Roman civilization
shifted from a monarchy to an oligarchic republic to an increasingly
autocratic empire. It came to dominate South-Western Europe, South-Eastern
Europe/Balkans and the Mediterranean region through conquest and
assimilation. The Western Roman Empire went into decline and disappeared in
the 5th century AD. Plagued by internal instability and attacked by various
migrating peoples, the western part of the empire, including Hispania,
Gaul, Britannia and Italy, broke up into independent kingdoms in the 5th
century. The Eastern Roman Empire, otherwise known as the Byzantine Empire,
was governed from Constantinople, comprising Greece, parts conquered by the
First Bulgarian Empire, Anatolia, Syria and Egypt, survived this crisis,
and despite the loss of Syria and Egypt to the Arab Islamic Empire, revived
and would live on for another millennium, until its last remains were
finally annexed by the emerging Turkish Ottoman Empire. This eastern,
Christian, medieval stage of the Empire is usually referred to as the
Byzantine Empire by historians. Roman civilization is often grouped into
classical antiquity with ancient Greece, a civilization that inspired much
of the culture of ancient Rome
